The Occupational Safety and Health Consultants Register (OSHCR) is now open to the public. The OSHCR is a register of consultants who can offer general advice to UK businesses to help them manage health and safety risks.
The Occupational Safety and Health Consultants Register (OSHCR) was set up to improve competence in the provision of health and safety advice by external consultants, as outlined in the Government commissioned report on UK health and safety, Common Sense Common Safety
Health and safety consultants registered on the Occupational Safety and Health Consultants Register (OSHCR) will have a status recognised by the participating bodies in the OSHCR scheme.

Legal Duty to Appoint a Competent Person
All businesses are required by law to appoint someone to advise on health and safety. This may be an internal or external appointment.
Many businesses particularly a small or medium size business may not have the need for a full time person and the services of a an external H&S Consultant may be the ideal solution. Alternatively a business may need to know that what they are doing is necessary, sensible and proportionate and may require a consultant to advise.
Where a business decides to appoint a consultant then the business is responsible for ensuring that the person they appoint are competent, so it would be prudent to check that any person they intend to appoint is on the Occupational Safety and Health Consultants Register (OSHCR).
